Expedition to the South-East remainder of the Aral Sea in 2013
In 2013 our team of three members wants to visit two points on the shore of the South-Eastern remainder of the Aral Sea where the 45°25′ N Parallel is crossing the eastern shore of the Renaissance (Vozrozhdenia) Peninsula and the eastern shore of the South-East remainder of the Aral Sea.
Outline Schedule
Day 1. Arrival in Kyzyl-Orda (Kazakhstan) by air via Almaty.
Day 2. Access by r/w to Aralsk (Aral). Overnight in Aralsk.
Day 3. Access by 4wd car to Barsakelmes nature Reserve. Inside the reserve access to the former northern coast of former Barsakelmes Island (Barsakelmes Peninsula now). Overnight in tents.
Day 4. Off road driving about 20 Km in northern direction till the 45°25′ N Parallel. Return drive to Aralsk. Overnight in Aralsk.
Day 5. Access by car from Aralsk to Kulandy settlement situated in the middle of the Peninsula Kulandy. Homestay accommodation in Kulandy.
Day 6. Driving by car to the straight connecting the South-Western and South Eastern remainders of the Aral Sea. Trip with a motor boat over the straight and then along the shore of the Renaissance Peninsula till the 45°25′ N Parallel. Return to the car. Return drive to Kulandy.
Day 7. Return drive to Aralsk. Taking overnight train to Kyzyl-Orda.
Day 8. Return flight to Almaty.
